Junior League of Northern Westchester Hosts 28th Annual Holiday Sharing Drive at the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester

Mount Kisco, NY (December 15, 2008) — The Junior League of Northern Westchester recently held their 28th Annual Holiday Sharing Drive, a program designed to provide individuals and families in need with holiday food and gifts, at the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester. This year approximately 300 families received gifts through the Drive.

"We have been very fortunate that the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester has offered us the use of their facilities for the past six years" said Trina Fontaine, president, Junior League of Northern Westchester. "They recognize how important this effort is to our community as they are one of 16 agencies that refer clients to the Holiday Sharing Drive. The impact we make this year will be even greater due to the difficult economic reality of this holiday season."

The Junior League of Northern Westchester matches donors from our community with local families in need of assistance, including those suffering from domestic violence, physical and mental disabilities, homelessness, substance abuse, unemployment, terminal illness, as well as those in other situations of hardship. Some needs are as basic as warm winter clothing, bedding, formula, diapers, as well as toys for children who would otherwise go without.

"We are delighted to be a part of the Junior League's Holiday Sharing Drive,"said Brian Skanes, executive director, Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester. "This worthwhile program touches the lives of so many in our community. It truly evokes the spirit of the season and what both organizations represent."

This year, donors contributed 1,220 containers full of food and goods to the families. "We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the members of the community who participate in this program."said Kate Hutchings and Jennifer Binette, co-chairs of the 28th Annual Holiday Sharing Drive. Major donors this year have included Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. and students, their families, and teachers from West Orchard Elementary School. The following local businesses donated food and supplies for the event: Whalen's Moving & Storage Company, Dunkin Donuts in Mount Kisco, Bellizzi, Basilico, Cosi, Big Apple Bagels, and Taylored Menus. Additionally, we would like to thank the Richard Oliver House for donating clothing and Mead Johnson for donating toys.
