Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Names Mt. Kisco Center Youth of the Year
Mt. Kisco, NY (April 29, 2008) — The Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester has selected 17 year-old Camille Angelica Venturina (of Mt. Kisco) as the Mt. Kisco Center's 2008 Youth of the Year. The national program, administered by Boys and Girls Clubs of America, recognizes exemplary character, superior leadership skills, academic achievement, outstanding service to Boys and Girls Clubs, and community outreach.
"We are pleased to recognize Camille for her outstanding service and dedication to the Club and local community," said Brian Skanes, Executive Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester. "Camille has become a leader and role model to our younger members. We congratulate her and look forward to a bright future."
Camille Angelica Venturina, senior at Fox Lane High School, arrived in this country from the Philippines at the age of 12, following her parents who emigrated years before. Despite her fluency in English, she was a stranger, one who knew she had to adapt to master her environment and gain control over her future. Camille joined the Boys & Girls Club's Keystone Club. Staff and Club members helped her overcome her shyness and fears, enabling her to adapt rapidly. There she has learned and honed her leadership skills. She has been president of the Keystone for two years, working on several fundraisers and community service projects such as a Thanksgiving Feast for Club members and senior citizens in day care at My Second Home.
Camille is on the high honor roll, with an "A+" average for the second quarter. She has identified pediatrics as her career goal and is currently enrolled in the New Visions Health program at Northern Westchester Hospital. This competitive program, comprised of classroom instruction and hands-on learning, allows Camille to work alongside health professionals and observe a variety of health-related procedures.

"The Boys & Girls Club opened up opportunities for me that helped me find myself," said Camille Angelica Venturina. "They taught me how to face the fears that I had when I moved to America."
