Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester Members Participate in September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance
Mount Kisco, NY (September 14, 2009) – In honor of the victims of 9/11 and those who rose to service in response, more than 100 Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester children, ages 5-17, wrote letters and drew pictures for U.S. soldiers overseas. Club members participated in the letter writing campaign for service men and women as part of the first September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance is the culmination of a seven-year effort started by the victim's family members and support groups as a way to honor the victims and heroes of 9/11 and to rekindle the spirit of unity and compassion that followed. The date was officially recognized as a National Day of Service and Remembrance by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, signed into law by President Obama in April.
The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester has had similar letter writing campaigns since the 9/11 attacks. Club members also contact soldiers at other times during the year with thank you notes and pictures.
