Brian Skanes, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester, Wins National Award.

Mt. Kisco, NY (March 18, 2005) — Brian Skanes, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester, has been selected as the national "Contribution to Profession Award" winner.

   
 

The announcement was made recently by the Association of Boys and Girls Clubs Professionals.

Skanes will receive this honor from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Association of Boys & Girls Clubs Professionals on April 27, 2005 at the organization's National Conference in San Diego, CA. Skanes was recently honored at the Leadership Conference in Puerto Rico for winning the "Contribution to Profession" regional award, which qualified him for the national honor.

"Brian has demonstrated a very thorough commitment to the Boys & Girls Club Movement," said Peter Thornton, Awards Chairman of the Association of Boys & Girls Club Professionals. "He has worked in a variety of capacities in positions of increasing responsibilities since he began his career in Salem, New Hampshire."

Under Skanes' direction, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester has been ranked among the outstanding Clubs in the national network. Skanes boasts a 30-year, rich history with Boys & Girls Clubs on local, regional, and national levels. He has served as Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester since 1994. Prior to this, he was Regional Director with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. As Executive Director, Skanes successfully spearheaded the $6 million renovation project at the Mt. Kisco Club.

"I am honored to receive this recognition," Skanes said. "The Club's positive impact on the lives of our kids is incredibly rewarding and I look forward to serving the Club for many years to come."

Thornton said that Skanes has an inspiring vision. "Brian's vision is for all youth to have caring mentors, to be afforded the same advantages to make their way in the world, and to have a safe place where they belong," he said. "Through his dedication and devotion to the organization's principles, he has been striving to make his vision a reality for over 30 years."

Skanes currently serves as President of the Mt. Kisco Chamber of Commerce. He is a Board member of the Association of Boys & Girls Club Professionals and the President's Council of the Northern Westchester Hospital Center. He is a member of various civic and professional organizations including the Community of Peace Association, Westchester County Association, Westchester Business Council, Mt. Kisco Rotary Club (past president) and the Chamber of Commerce in Yorktown. Skanes was honored with the Mt. Kisco 2002 Citizen of the Year award.

Skanes serves as a career consultant with the Boys & Girls Club of America and boasts a distinguished service level in the Academy of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Other national recognition he has received include his selection by a distinguished panel of leaders to participate in Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Thomas G. Garth Executive Leadership program.
